2004 Quarterback Club News and Events

    • Mustangs and Indians 6:00 p.m.

Dinner will be served in the cafeteria. Following dinner, awards and trophy presentations will be held in the auditorium.

Note: If your child's equipment is not turned in and accounted for, your child will not receive his or her trophy.

The date for the election of officers for the 2005 season will be announced at the banquet.

Championship Game Activities Announced

Can anyone recall how long it’s been since all four of the LQC teams were playing for the league championship in the same season? Several times in the last eight years the LQC has sent three teams to the championship games, winning two of them. The Quarterback Club is 44 - 4 for this season and is presented with an unheard of window of opportunity: each team has a legitimate shot at the title.

Therefore...Since all four teams are playing for the championship, the following procession procedures have been put in the works for this Saturday (November 13); and it is hoped that all can participate.

  • Meet at the Loudon High School flag pole at 2:00 p.m. where the accomplishments of the players will be acknowledged, a prayer will be said, and the pledge of allegiance will be recited.
  • At 2:30 the entire group will begin a police-escorted procession to Vonore.
  • It is requested that all wear red.

Homecoming Festivities

Our homecoming festivities will be held on October 23 at 9:00 a.m. We will have a line up for the parade at 9:00 a.m. at Loudon High School. The parade will start at 10:00 a.m., leaving from the high school, and traveling through town and up to the field. Once everyone is on the field, we will crown our kings and queens for each team. This should end at approximately 12:00. At that time, the Mascot cheerleaders will be performing their dance. They have been working very hard, and we hope everyone can stay and support their hard work. Our games have been rescheduled for 1:00 p.m. The homecoming dance will be held at Loudon High School starting at 7:30 p.m. We need adults to act as chaperones for the dance. There is an admission of $3.00 per child. The dance will end at 11:00 p.m. Concessions will also be available.

Halloween Scheduling

Due to a request from the Lenoir City A club, our games on the 30th will begin at 1:00 p.m. This is in anticipation of scheduled Halloween activities. In addition to the change in time, they would also like to change the order in which our teams play. We have agreed to swap the Mustangs and Indians game. Therefore, the Indians will play before the Mustangs. The game times are as follows:

  • Crickets 1:00 p.m.
  • Hoppers 2:00 p.m.
  • Indians 3:00 p.m.
  • Mustangs 4:00 p.m.

Bake Sale Update

The Bake Sale at the L.C. "B" game was a big sucess, it raised a little over $345.00. Thank you Ms. Sue Thacker!

Picture Time

Pictures for the 2004 season will be taken this Saturday, October 2nd.

  • Quarterback Club Group Photo 10:20 a.m.

Harig to Introduce Players from the Hill

Head Coach Jeff Harig, LHS Staff and football team invites the Loudon Quarterback Club players, cheerleaders, and coaches to:

  • What: LHS football game - Loudon vs. Fulton
  • Where: LHS field (meet at the gate where the LHS players enter the field)*
  • Cost: FREE to players, cheerleaders, and coaches IF you wear your uniform! (jerseys and cheerleading tops)

* The children and coaches will be going on the field to be recognized and honored.

Bake Sale

We are having a bake sale at our next home game. On Saturday, Oct. 9 we will be playing Lenoir City. We are going to try and have a bake sale during all four games. In order to do this we need your help. If you would be interested in baking something to be sold at the bake sale, please contact Sue Thacker at 458-2127 in the evening. Ms. Thacker will coordinate what everyone makes, so that we do not end up with a lot of the same items. Once more, we would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers.

Pictures and Car Wash

Pictures. Pictures are scheduled for September 18. Crickets, Hoppers, and Mascots are scheduled for 9:00 am. Mustangs and Indians are scheduled for 10:00 am. A large group photo will be taken at 10:00 am.

Car Wash. We have a fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, August 28. The car wash will be held at Food City in Loudon from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. We will be scheduling volunteers for specific time slots. This is an away-ballgame day. We need everyone to participate. We need funds to upgrade our facilities and equipment, and we can not do this without everyone's participation. If you cannot take part, we will be glad to take any donations you can obtain.

Time Changes for the Tellico Games

The Loudon Quarterback Club vs. Tellico games for this Saturday (8-21) have been rescheduled. The new times are as follows:

  • 12:00 Indians
  • 1:00 Mustangs
  • 2:00 Hoppers
  • 3:00 Crickets

A Letter from David Matlock on the Lenoir City Schism

The following is a letter to Sequoyah Conference commissioners from conference President David Matlock stating the conference's stance on the divided Lenoir City football program. It is posted here in its original form and has not been edited.

Commissioners,

I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify in writing the decision the Sequoyah Conference made concerning the Lenoir City situation.

Considering the courts have not made a timely judgment regarding this dispute, and considering we needed some stability with our schedules, we have decided to allow both groups to have an equal opportunity to participate in the Sequoyah Conference on a probationary period. This is customary for any new team to the conference. The group represented by Troy Perlov and Rhonda Noble will now be referred to as Lenoir City A. The group represented by Stephen Smith and Jerry Liles will now be referred to as Lenoir City B. These names were decided by drawing. Accommodations have been made to play the extra Lenoir City team on the Open date of each conference member.

Each Lenoir City group has the responsibility of getting a field for each of their home games. In the event that they cannot get a field, they must travel to their opponents field if available, and they lose the right to gate or concession money for that game, thus becoming an away game. Sufficient notice must be given to the visiting team if a field is not available, and the commissioners from each town involved should agree on appropriate action. In the event agreement cannot be made, the Conference will decide following Conference procedures for resolving disputes.

Beginning with the Jamboree, each team is required to have enough eligible players for each team to play. Any group which fails to field a team, will be automatically removed as a participant in the conference. The other group may then assume the position as the only Lenoir City team in the conference. The remaining team must be available to take players from the LC team which can no longer participate in the conference. Let me emphasize that we are mainly concerned with a child's opportunity to play football in our conference as long as they meet our age and physical requirements.

If one of these teams fails to field a team, the other conference commissioners must meet to decide player status as well as playoff status, depending on how much of the season has passed.

Concerning player eligibility, the Lenoir City area is now deemed as "open" territory for both groups until our certification meeting. If any confusion occurs at that meeting over a player, the conference reserves the right to contact the parent of the child to clarify player intent. The player will be "locked" with the team they have chosen, unless one of the teams fails to field a team, and loses conference participation.

If both groups make it throughout the entire season, they will be voted on by the Sequoyah Conference for full membership in our February meeting. This will be the time for each group to tell their merits for joining the Conference. Meeting all of the special guidelines set forth by the Conference will not guarantee membership, but will certainly help in the decision-making process.

The Conference would love to see Lenoir City as one united team, with all of the competitiveness and energy as before. If I have omitted anything or if further clarification is needed, please feel free to contact me as my computer is now back on line.

The Lenoir City Mess Update

The Sequoyah Conference met on Sunday, June 13 to discuss, among other matters, the issue of the divided Lenoir City football program. It was decided that both groups would be allowed in. There will be a Lenoir City A team and a Lenoir City B team this year. As a result, there will be no open dates as there were last year. We are hoping to acquire a copy of the minutes of the meeting so that more information can be reported.

Loudon Quarterback Club Sign-Up Dates

Sign-ups for football are as follows:

  • 6-11 6:00 pm 'til 9:00 pm: Returning players only
  • 6-12 9:00 am 'til 4:00 pm: Returning players only
  • 6-19 9:00 am 'til 1:00 pm: Open sign-ups (New players MUST have birth certificate)
  • 7-17 9:00 am 'til 3:00 pm: FOOTBALL CAMP! Cost is $5.00 and lunch will be provided.
  • 7-17 8:00 am 'til 1:00 pm: Cheerleading camp at LHS gymnasium. No cost; its free.

The cost for sign-ups is $40.00 for the first child and $15.00 for each additional sibling. Qualifying ages for Quarterback Club football are 5 - 13.

Sequoyah Conference Meeting

The following weight class changes were made at the Conference meeting held on Sunday, February 29:

  • Crickets: 85 pounds; 110 pounds tackle to tackle. (Add 3 pounds for game pants).
  • Hoppers: 115 pounds; 140 pounds tackle to tackle. (Add 3 pounds for game pants).
  • Cutters: 135 pounds; 170 pounds tackle to tackle. (Add 3 pounds for game pants).
  • Juniors: 165 pounds; Unlimited tackle to tackle.

The commissioners also voted to allow Lenoir City until June to resolve the question of who will be in charge of their Quarterback Club. For those who haven't heard, there is now a dispute over the leadership of the Lenoir City Quarterback Club. The parties involved have websites:

Schism in Lenoir City

As some of you may or may not know by now, I e-mailed both parties involved in the Lenoir City Quarterback Club legal dispute this weekend to acquire information to possibly post on this news page. Having spoken with several Loudon residents and Quarterback Club members today, the general consensus is that our website should not produce an article on these matters and that we should stay out of it altogether. I intend to honor their wishes, as I believe this is probably the shared opinion of most Loudon Quarterback Club members. Other than this notice of our website's neutrality on the issue, no other articles on the matter will be posted.

2004 Quarterback Club Elections

On Sunday, February 1st, the Loudon Quarterback Club met to elect officers for the 2004 football season. A short business meeting was also held outlining the fiscal health of the club and the goals for the upcoming season. A small crowd was on hand as LQC President Jeff Nichols presided over the meeting. The floor was opened up for nominations with the following slate of officers elected:

President Jeff Nichols was elected for a second term and spoke on the dedication of the volunteers involved in the Quarterback Club.


 

 

Sequoyah Conference President David Matlock has moved up to coach the Indians and is also Conference Co-Commissioner. Last year Matlock was head coach of the Hoppers.


 

Scott Newman will be taking over as head coach of the Crickets this year. In 2003, Newman was head coach of the Mustangs, who went on to become conference champions.


 

The 2003 Indians cheerleaders were recognized by Quarterback Club President Jeff Nichols for winning the conference cheerleading championships. Way to go girls!

A proclamation was also made congratulating the Conference Championships for the Hopper and Mustangs Football teams and also the Indians Cheerleading team.

Elected for a second term, President Nichols praised the volunteer sprit of the organization, the dedication of the officers, and their commitment to the children of the club. President Nichols has set the bar high with goals to move forward with capital improvements to the equipment and facilities.
