Polk Co. won the toss and wanted the ball. The Mustangs kicked short, hustling down to recover the on-sides kick was #23 Wade “Sweetness” Plemons. With the short field, all it took was four plays to score. #22 Nick Brown (of “Team Brown”) bolted across the goal line for the 10 yard touchdown! There was 6:43 left in the first period.

Set to kick off again, it was another on-sides kick attempt. A Polk Co. lineman fielded the kick; he was popped hard and coughed up the ball. #39 Caleb Russell pounced on the loose ball. First and 10, Mustangs, with the ball on the Polk Co. 44 yard line. #23 Wade “Sweetness” Plemons took it to the house from 44 yards out, on the very next play. Touchdown Mustangs! The scoreboard read 12-0, and the clock showed 2:59 left in the first period. Two turnovers yielded 12 points.

Wanting in on the act, #30 Trey “The Train” Townson chugged across the goal line from the five yard line.

The kick off was kicked deep this time. The Wildcat kick returnee fumbled the ball around until #21 Trey Horton hustled down and recovered it. Several plays later, on a nifty play, #7 Eric Newman, took the handoff on an end-a-round and streaked un-touched 39 yards to pay dirt! With two 2-point conversions by Townson, the score is 28-0, at half time.

To start the second half, the Wildcats kicked off. Plemons fielded the kick and handed off to Eric Newman on a reverse. The Mustang kick off team set up “The Wall” along the home sideline, Newman followed the convoy, for a 47 yard return! Four plays later, and Nick Brown had scored his second touchdown of the day.

The special team play by the Mustangs broke the back and the will of the visiting Wildcats. Three kick offs were recovered, and converted into touchdowns. Two other fumbles were recovered as well. Top defenders were #48 Matthew Livecche with four knockdowns and a fumble recovery, #64 Dalton “Happy” Lively logged five stops, and #17 Jacob “Crazy Legs” Rice had two tackles and also recovered a fumble.

In a three quarter decision, the Loudon Mustangs 34, Polk Co. zero. The Mustangs posted 36 rushes for 267 yards, five touchdowns, and two 2-pt. conversions.

The Loudon Mustangs (9-0, #1 seed) will be facing the Madisonville Cutters (7-2), this Saturday. Everyone come out and support your ‘Stangs.
