Week 2, and the Loudon Quarterback Club teams caravanned to McMinn Co. High School, where the Athens Jr. Cherokees hosted the games. The sun was scorching hot, but the Loudon Quarterback Club teams were HOTTER! We took four (4) more Big Ones, running our total to eight (8) wins vs. zero losses. We travel to Greenback (Greenback’s record is 7-1) next Saturday (9-4-2004), first game at 3:00 pm.

The Mustangs won the toss and choose to start the game on defense. The Athens Cutters gained eight yards on three plays, with an early roll of the dice, they went for it on forth and 2. Those odds would not be in your favor if you were a betting man. The Mustang defense promptly stuffed the play for no gain! From that point until half-time, the ‘Stang offense was on the field. They drove down the gridiron and punched in a touchdown. #23 Wade Plemons snuck in from the one yard line and added the 2-pt. conversion himself. The clock showed about 72 seconds left the half. On their first offensive play, the Cherokees fumbled the ball back to Loudon. #21 Trey Horton came up with that loose ball. Your Mustangs took two shots at the end zone. Plemons completed a 14 yard pass to #31 Noah Maples, the next pass attempt fell incomplete as time expired in the first half. The score was eight to zip, Loudon. Both teams swapped punts in the third stanza, that went scoreless. However the ‘Stang offense started a six play drive that climaxed in a 19 yard keeper for #23 Wade Plemons (conv failed). With the score now 14 to zero, the Athens team ran for four yards, and then struck with lightning; a 51 yard swing pass that was good for six points (conv failed). The ‘Kees attempted an onsides kick, the ball bounced off a Loudon player and was there for the taking. Big #55 Cody Crass emerged from the pile with the ball held high for everyone to see, a game saving play! With the short field, the Big Red punched in a score from the 17 yard line, Plemons again doing the damage. The conversion points were tacked on by #30 Trey Townson. The Athens QB threw incomplete pass after incomplete pass, against a very heavy rush. In a thriller, Loudon Mustangs 22, Athens 6. The Mustangs posted 33 rushes for 164 yards, two touchdowns, and two 2-pt. conversions. QB Plemons was 1 of 2 passing for 14 yards.
