Greenback 0 0 6 6 12
The #1 seed Loudon Indians (11-1) verses the #2 seed Greenback Cherokee Juniors (10-2) was the final contest of the evening. In week #3 of the regular season, your Loudon Indians defeated G’back 22-12.

The Cherokee’s won the toss and wanted the ball. After the short kick off, Greenback was in business on the 43 yard line. Disaster struck on their third play from scrimmage, as the football squirted loose. An alert #22 Isaac Peters pounced on that loose pig skin.

The Indians have been made big plays all season, this game, for all the marbles, would be no exception. The Indians pride themselves in turning turnovers into points. Taking over on the 47 yard line, the first offensive play resulted in an Indian touchdown! Going the distance was #45 Jordan Purdy, as he outran everyone in route to a 53 yard score. Purdy also added the conversion points. With the score 8-0, your Loudon Indians, the clock showed 6:29 left in the first quarter.

As easy as that score seemed, Greenback regrouped and played solid football on both sides of the ball for the rest of the first half. Two drives for each team stalled out on downs, as the first half came to a close. The clock was out of time, but the scoreboard read 8-0, your Loudon Indians.

#22 Isaac Peters returned the second half kick off 15 yards, to the Greenback 44 yard line. In straight ahead power football, Purdy, #33 Tommy Brown, and #30 Tyler Barr took turns pounding the rock; which resulted in another Indian touchdown. The final 20 yards were all #30 Tyler Barr’s, as he burst up the middle following great blocking by the Indian offensive line. QB #4 Zach Franklin attempted a bootleg pass for the points after, however it fell incomplete.

The Cherokee’s finally got rolling and broke the ice with a 23 yard touchdown as time expired in the third period. With the score 14-6, it was still anyone’s ball game.

The Indians accepted the challenge and posted two scores in the fourth stanza, to put the game out of reach. #44 Caleb Giles bullied in from the one yard line. The Greenback QB threw a perfect spiral into the waiting arms of #22 Isaac Peters on their own 17 yard line. With that turnover, #30 Tyler Barr scores his second touchdown of the game, a four yarder.

G’back still had some fight left; as Jake Myers reeled off a 37 yard dinger. The ‘Kee QB was attempting a pass for the 2-point conversion, #81 Ryan Brennan had other ideas though, as he intercepted the errant aerial.

Running out the clock, #33 Tommy Brown, in the victory formation, took a knee… and that’s the ball game.

Top defenders were: #45 Jordan Purdy with 10 tackles, #43 Aaron Lawson added seven takedowns, playing the best game of his career was #22 Isaac Peters who logged seven tackles, a fumble recovery, a pass break up, and an interception, and a ferocious defender all season #54 Eric Lawson with six takedowns.

Rushing was for 228 yards on 40 attempts for four touchdowns and one 2-point conversion. By committee, the Indians were 0 for 5 passing.

The Offensive MVP was awarded to #30 Tyler Barr, while the Defensive MVP was presented to #45 Jordan Purdy.

The final score of this Championship Game was 26-12, your Loudon Indians (12-1). This is the first time in eight seasons that the Indians have been crowned league champions by winning the Championship Game! Congratulations first year Indian Head Coach David Matlock, assistant coaches, and players on your great accomplishments this season!
