HOW TO: Become a Loudon Redskin

By Ashley Russell - Student

If you are an incoming freshman here are some little tips that are on a need to know basis, how to become a Loudon Redskin. Every victory starts with a little war paint, the band's drums pounding, the Indians of the school begin gathering, screaming their hearts out for spirit, and stealing the chief. Then preparing for the game, pep talks from the coach, starting the game, playing, and winning the game. The students, travel down the streets of Redskin country, their perspective about school will change over the years. All this leads to becoming a Loudon Redskin.

Becoming a Loudon Redskin starts with a few simple tasks. All games consist of the “REDSKIN NATION” gathering around to paint up in war paint. This goes to show every, game is played like a WAR. To hear the band's drums pounding, it is a sight to see all the little Indians begin gathering. A pep rally is not a pep rally, without Bruce leading “2 Bits” or a scream off! Which the Champions will always be the class of 2008. Sorry underclassman, but they have only lost once. (It was a BIG mistake!) But needless to say, they stole the chief back!

Watching the game is a great part of becoming a redskin. It all starts with a pep talk from Coach Harig as the boys stand in their huddle of greatness. He always knows how to get them pumped up and the game started. Playing hard until the very end and winning, just seems like you have conquered the world. Ask any Redskin, they are full of enthusiastic loyalty that is felt by all the Loudon fans before, during, and after times of competition and rivalry. All the games are played in memory and in honor of those the Redskin that will be cherished forever: Burt “Chig” Ratledge, Albert C. Duke, Henry Blackburn, Jack Nichols, and W. B. Costner, just to name a few.

Then when it’s all done, A Loudon Redskin will always say, our perspective of school has changed. A Redskin will love to go to school, even if it is just on game days. The pride that comes over you when the school colors of Red and White, are worn is a feeling a faith, beauty and transformation of student's views of high school life. A “true” Redskin's blood will always run red! If, you as an underclassman can answer the next five questions right and truthfully, you might be a redskin!

1. Who is Burt “Chig” Ratledge?

2. What is a key role Bruce Lawson plays for the Loudon Redskins?

3. What four jersey numbers are on the press box?

4. What are the two school colors?

5. Who is the author of this article?

With concluding my teachings of How to Become a Loudon Redskin, a freshman will need to know: Every victory will start with a little war paint, the band's drums pounding, Indians of the school begin gathering, screaming your hearts out, and stealing the chief. Then preparing for the game, a pep talk from the coach, starting the game, playing, and winning the game. The students will, travel down the streets of Redskin country, and their perspective about school will change over the years. All this will lead to becoming a Loudon Redskin. But remember, a Redskin's senior year of high school is not the final chapter. A Loudon Redskin will run long and always true. Now you are a Loudon Redskin.

THANKKKK YOUUUU!!!!
