This regional contest is a must win situation for the Redskins, all the games from here on out will be. We hold a 4-1 record all time verses Oliver Springs (5-2, 2-2A); the last meeting resulted in a 21-0 Redskin victory in 2000 season.

Out for the coin toss were Redskin Captains #3 Brandon Dixon, #4 Cody Fritts, #7 Mark Harrison, and #61 Tim Ramsey. The Redskins won the toss and wanted the ball.

#21 Cory Fritts got things going with a 33 yard kick-off return, all the way up to the 40 yard line. Things didn’t exactly start out auspiciously, as #4 Cody Fritts was dropped for a four yard loss. A big factor in this game was the Redskins’ ability to pound the football up the middle. Senior fullback, #3 Brandon Dixon, did just that, rushing eight times for 43 yards during the course of the game. QB Cody Fritts took to the air completing passes to Dixon and twin brother Cory Fritts for 25 and 12 yards respectively. After two rushes for losses, the Bobcats batted down the fourth down pass attempt.

Olivers took over on their own 27 yard line, but went three and out. The Redskins followed suite, and then forced another Bobcat punt.

Loudon starts a drive with 2:28 left in the first period on the 20 yard line (the punt went into the end zone for a touchback). 11 plays later, the ’Skins were knocking on the door. Stretched to fourth and eight, the Reds are in punt formation. The ball is snapped to the up back, #15 Blake McNew, who surges ahead for the first down. Dixon takes one up the middle for 18 yards and #10 Ryan Queen caught three passes in the drive good for 20 yards. #8 Tyler Campbell is stopped short of the 1st down marker and the Reds give up the ball on downs on the Bobcat 21 yard line. There’s 9:04 left on the second quarter clock.

The Big Red Wall is playing spectacularly; this will be the third possession in a row that the Loudon Defense has forced a Bobcat punt.

With the 13 yard Cory Fritts punt return, the Redskins have good field position on their own 48 yard line. Campbell looses a yard, but with the facemask penalty 15 yards is tacked on to the play. From there Cory Fritts runs a little inside trap for 12 yards and Campbell squirts ahead for 13 more. It’s first and goal on the five yard line. Then things turned South. QB Cody Fritts is sacked all the way back to the 15 yard line. On fourth down Queen is the lucky recipient of a 15 yard touchdown pass. Touchdown Redskins! With the Cody Fritts extra point kick, the ‘Skins are up 7-0.

On their next series, OS quarterback Brent Kelly throws an interception to Queen. Although they failed to capitalize on that turnover, the Reds were three and out and punted the ball away.

With a potent pass rush the defensive lineman had #16 Kelly seeing RED as he threw his second straight interception to #21 Cory Fritts! With an 18 yard return, the ball is spotted on the ‘Skin’s 40 yard line. This time Loudon does convert the turnover into points! Queen catches a 20 yard pass and Campbell adds 31 yards on an outstanding run. It’s first and goal Redskins, from the seven yard line. Sophomore sensation #8 Tyler Campbell scores the second Redskin touchdown of the game on a seven yard power burst. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.

Olivers manages two plays before the half expired, but #51 Clay Matlock and #53 Jimmy McQueen stuffed the ball carries. Going into the locker room, the Redskins enjoy a 13-0 lead.

The Homecoming Queen was crowned during half time, your 2005 Homecoming Queen is Miss Kyri Zukowski.

As always, the most important series of a football game is at the beginning of the second half. The Bobcats returned the kick-off up to the 29 yard line – that’s about where they would be punting from three plays later, #61 Tim Ramsey and #5 Taylor Eldridge made sure of that.

The Ozz punt went out of bounds on the Redskin 48 yard line, that’s where the ‘Skins take over. Six plays and 2:21 later has the Big Red sporting a 21-0 lead. Campbell got things started with a 20 yard scamper; Cody Fritts addes 15 more on a broken play. The holding penalty was more than made up for by a 20 yard reception to #2 Ben Everett. It’s first and goal from the one yard line. On a quarterback sneak, Cody Fritts goes over for the score. Attempting to kick the extra point, #87 Wiley Brakebill has trouble with the low snap and flips the ball back to the kicker who also happens to be the quarterback. Cody Fritts passes out in the flat to Tyler Campbell who goes the needed three yards for the 2-point conversion.

The Bobcats pass incomplete and QB Kelly is sacked on consecutive plays by #50 Daniel Hampton and #81 Daniel Laughlin. Oliver Springs is really getting frustrated; they get hit with a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Still in the third period, McNew directs the team from the quarterback position. On third and seven McNew’s pass falls incomplete. Cody Fritts get off a nice punt of 35 yards.

Ozz has a spark left as #36 Joshua Justice rambles for 16 yards. For three plays #7 Mark Harrison and #44 Matthew Packett harass and punish the ball carriers. On fourth and four Cory Fritts breaks up Kelly’s pass, and the ‘Skins take over on downs.

The Redskins have a chance to break this game wide open - and they do. Queen is fast becoming QB Fritt’s go to guy, catching two passes for 23 yards in this drive. After a first down run by Dixon of seven yards, Tyler Campbell does the rest. Electrifying the home town crowd with 35 yard touchdown run, Campbell rings up another score (extra point was wide, right). The ROTC cannon reverberates the stadium with its blast - again.

It’s late in the third quarter, Olivers has the ball on the 35 yard line. To add insult to injury, #36 Joshua Justice fumbles the ball, coming up with the turnover is none other than senior linebacker #44 Matthew Packett!

The Reds wasted little time, QB Fritts found senior tight end #5 Taylor Eldridge open down field for a 17 yard completion. The seven play drive culminated in an eight yard touchdown by Tyler Campbell, his seventh touchdown of the season. After the Cody Fritts kick, the score is 34-0, your Redskins!

Totally befuddled and out of sync, the Oliver Springs offense fumbles the football again. Senior defensive end #82 Cody Wiggins pounces on that loose pig skin giving the Redskins control on the 43 yard line.

After six straight carries by #20 Tom Cruz, the Bobcats come up with their own fumble recovery. Determined to avoid a shutout, the OS varsity pounds away at our underclassman, it took seven plays, but #36 Justice finally breaks the plane from 11 yards out.

Loudon would run four plays, and then freshman QB #9 Brandon Johnson took a knee twice in victory formation. That would do it.

This was a very balanced game for the Redskins. Although the offense had trouble running the football in the first half, they made amends in the second half. The defensive keep coming up with turnovers; two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, heavy pressure on the quarterback and several sacks powered the Big Red “D”. The ubiquitous disrupters were seniors #5 Taylor Eldridge and #61 Tim Ramsey who were unofficially credited with six tackles each. And with the final score of 34-7, the Redskins (7-1) skin the Bobcats!

The ‘Skins (7-1) will host the Wartburg Central Bulldogs Friday in a key regional contest. It’s Senior Night as the Redskin seniors will be playing their last regular season home game. Go Big Red!
